Moravian Ministries Foundation
Begun in late 1997 (then known as the Interprovincial Office of Planned Giving), The Moravian Ministries Foundation has developed into a full service 'stewardship support' ministry, serving the Northern and Southern Provinces. As expressed in the vision statement, "…The Foundation is dedicated to informing, educating and receiving charitable gifts for every Believer who wishes to support the Moravian cause of his/her choosing…"
A primary role of the Foundation is to raise the level of awareness about the need for every Moravian to prepare a will. The Foundation also provides church members information about the various forms of planned gifts that offer an opportunity to give a gift, and receive a tax deduction and lifetime income, avoid capital gains taxes and simplify the probate process.
The Moravian Ministries Foundation publishes two newsletters. Giving & Receiving reaches over 10,000 Moravian households and speaks to issues of planned giving and estate planning. A Common Spirit is targeted to church leaders and addresses a wide range of topics, including planned giving, stewardship, capital campaigns and others.
In addition to planned giving services, the Foundation offers an endowment management program. Known as the Moravian Common Fund, this service allows churches and agencies to invest their endowments and permanent funds with other churches and agencies in well-managed portfolio. State Street Global Advisors from Boston is the investment manager for the Common Fund. Created in April 1999, the Common Fund has over 25 churches and agencies participating that have invested almost $15 million.
In 1999, the Foundation launched Morning Star Campaign Services. Morning Star is a fee for service consulting program that assists churches, agencies, and affiliated ministries in planning, preparing and conducting capital campaigns. In addition, Morning Star provided a comprehensive feasibility and market study for Laurel Ridge Camp, Conference and Retreat Center. The fees for Morning Star's services are typically 4% to 6% of the eventual campaign goal - well below most for-profit consulting firms.

Moravian Music Foundation
The Moravian Music Foundation preserves one of the largest and most diverse collections of music used in early America. One of nine surviving copies of the first printing of The Star-Spangled Banner is included in the collection. The only comparable collections are in the Library of Congress and the New York Public Library.
The foundation plays an active role in the life of the province by maintaining, editing, and providing instrumental and choral music for use by church choirs or other organizations. The Foundation provides resources for churches such as an order of service and liturgy for Moravian Music Sunday, sponsors the Moravian Music Festival every other summer, and records or facilitates the recording of various pieces from their vast collection. Check the Moravian Music Foundation web site for available recordings on compact discs or cassettes.
Dr. Nola Reed Knouse is the director of the Moravian Music Foundation. The telephone number for the foundation is 336/725-0651. The FAX number is 336/725-4514.
