Together with the Universal Christian Church, we have a concern for this world, opening our heart and hand to our neighbors with the message of the love of God, and being ever ready to minister of our substance to their necessities.

--From the Moravian Covenant for Christian Living

Meeting the spiritual and physical needs of non-members as well as members has been the goal of the Moravian Church since its inception.

Accepting fully the charge to "make disciples of all nations," the Moravian Church was the first Protestant church to enter the mission field. Mission work began in 1732 when the first missionaries left Germany to bring the word of the Lord to the people of the West Indies. Many areas once served as mission fields are now considered part of the worldwide Moravian Unity, but Moravian outreach continues in communities around the world, at home and abroad, in a variety of ways.

Today Moravians reach out to minister to the poor and needy, the young and old, the powerless and suffering and those in search of a deeper spiritual life through programs ranging from crisis intervention to camps for young people. In the Southern Province, a number of agencies and organizations provide this outreach. (The names and telephone numbers of all agencies and agency staff members are available in Whom To Call for Assistance and Information.
